Changes to HPV vaccine dose

New evidence shows that only one dose of the Gardasil®9 vaccine is needed to give protection against the strains of HPV most likely to cause cervical cancer and genital warts.

From February 2023, young people aged 12 to 13 years will only require a single dose of the vaccine. Any person who was aged 25 years or younger at the time they had a single dose of any Gardasil vaccine is now considered immune and no more doses are needed.

Vaccination is now free for all Medicare card holders in Victoria aged up to 25 years who have never had any type of Gardasil vaccine. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines are a safe and reliable way to protect young people from a range of HPV-related cancers and diseases.

You can discuss your vaccine options with your doctor or nurse.
