Evidence demonstrates that Youth and Community workers play a pivotal role in supporting young people’s sexual health and improving their health outcomes. We want to support the sector to enable staff to have the knowledge and confidence to start conversations with the young people they work with about their reproductive and sexual health.

This free full day course is designed for a group of staff from an organisation, working with young people aged 12-25, who are at-risk or outside of a mainstream secondary school setting. The course is delivered via eLearning or Face to Face delivery. When a booking is made, the Community Outreach Coordinator will discuss how the session is intended to be delivered.

After completing the course, participants will have:

  • increased knowledge in how to provide support to young people with their reproductive and sexual health; and
  • increased confidence in their ability to support young people with their reproductive and sexual health.

Course Overview

This course is delivered by experienced nurse educators who work with young people in both educational and clinic settings.

This full day course includes:

  • participation in a virtual Zoom or face to face classroom with 2 nurse educators,
  • a downloadable certificate of completion at the end of the course.
  • all participants who have attended the classroom have access to further reading and resources for 6 months via our online learning platform.

Topics

  • An overview of sexual health for young people
  • Key considerations when working with young people, including:
    • Access to reproductive and sexual health services.
    • Sexually transmissible infections and blood borne viruses.
    • Contraceptive options.
    • Unplanned pregnancy pathways.
    • LGBTQA+ resources and referral pathways.

Cost

This course is free and only available to eligible Victorian youth and community organisations.

Eligibility criteria

This course is for a group of staff from a professional youth and community organisation working with young people aged 12 to 25 years, who are at-risk or are outside of the mainstream secondary school setting. This may include, but is not limited to, young people who: are in out-of-home-care settings; attend alternative education settings; are affected by homelessness; are affected by substance use; identify as LGBTQA+

*To be eligible for registration you must be employed within Victoria.

Can’t make group staff training? We’ve got you covered. As a youth and community worker you can join others from the sector in our equivalent course by registering for Sex in the City — Young People’s Sexual Health. These run at least 8 times per year.
