Sexuality is a key part of human nature. People with Cognitive Disability (including those with Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Acquired Brain Injury) experience the same range of sexual thoughts, attitudes, feelings, desires, fantasies and activities as anyone else. To understand and enjoy sexuality, everyone needs appropriate information and support from as early as possible.

This outreach session (at your site) is designed for professionals who support individuals with Cognitive Disability (CD) and want to develop skills on the topics related to reproductive and sexual health and relationships.

Learning intentions

Participants will:

  • explore the emergence of sexuality and factors that may affect this
  • examine values and attuites that may impact information provision
  • examine legislation that supports all people to access sexual and reproductive education, information and health care, including laws and duty of care
  • identify ways to engage in discussions around sexuality and relationships in age- and developmentally appropriate ways
  • acquire specialist information/activities/resources to support individuals with CD develop strategies for answering questions and responding to behaviours with confidence
  • have the opportunity to ask questions of an experienced disability and community educator

Workshop details

  • This workshop can be delivered as a full day (6 hours with lunch break) or shortened to a 3.5 hour workshop
  • FPV workshops are delivered by experienced disability and community educators.
  • This session is designed for professionals working within residential and day services.
  • Workshops can be held at a service, community space or residential unit. They can also be conducted at one of our training facilities. We also offer sessions via eLearning.

$1150 (GST free) full day

$700 (GST free) 3.5 hours
