Splash - Family Planning Victoria’s Support Group for LGBTIQ Young People - is no longer running.

We view this as very positive move and indeed, cause for celebration.

In 1993, when Splash (formerly known as YAK) first began, there were very few groups in the Melbourne metro area that were specifically to provide support for LGBTIQ youth. As a result, those young people frequently felt unsupported and marginalised.

FPV saw there was a great need for such a group and so YAK came about. YAK was well attended for many years, was in a few different locations and had a few different formats. The goal was always the same: to provide a supportive and welcoming environment for LGBTIQ youth.

Over the last few years attendance has declined as more and more social and support groups for LGBTIQ youth have started. Many more young people are able to come out and be proud and welcomed by the wider community.

FPV is proud to say that Splash/YAK is no longer needed.

FPV will continue to advocate for and support the needs of LGBTIQ youth and adults through our Community Outreach Services, as well as our core business and in everyday practice.
