In light of research conducted around sexuality education, Sexual Health Victoria has developed a suite of comprehensive sessions that align with the Victorian Curriculum levels and incorporate best teaching practice. The following menu has been designed to allow schools to put to together a session/s that best suits their own timetable and students’ needs.

It is recommended that:

  • the maximum number of students in a session is 26-27
  • sessions are preferably 1.5 hours (please alert at time of booking if an alternative time is preferred.)

Each session will include information, activities, values clarification and an opportunity for students to ask questions. We offer extension activities that can be used by classroom teachers to consolidate learning.

Levels 7 & 8

Puberty (physical, social and emotional changes)

Learning intentions:

  • review human sexual and reproductive anatomy
  • develop an understanding of the physiological, social and emotional changes that happen throughout puberty
  • explore strategies for managing puberty
Puberty and reproduction

Learning intentions:

  • review human sexual and reproductive anatomy
  • develop an understanding of the physical, social and emotional changes that happen throughout puberty
  • explore strategies for managing puberty
  • identify links between conception, the progression of pregnancy and birth
  • explore assisted reproductive techniques
Introduction to Contraception and Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs)

Learning intentions:

  • be introduced to safer sex practices
  • become informed about the latest contraception options, methods of STI prevention and available health services
Healthy relationships, dating and breaking up

Learning intentions:

  • examine different types of relationships
  • identify ways to begin and end relationships respectfully
  • define the factors that make a relationship healthy or unhealthy
Emerging sexuality, understanding gender and diversity

Learning intentions:

  • define sexuality, gender, orientation, sex and identity
  • examine gender stereotypes and the way they impact on identity and wellbeing
  • explore the concepts of love, crushes, sexual attraction and sexual feelings
Relationships in the digital space

Learning intentions:

  • Identify how to navigate social media safely, ethically, and legally in regards to relationships and sexuality
  • Critically review how sex and relationships are portrayed in the media, including porn

Levels 9 & 10

Healthy relationships and consent

Learning intentions:

  • identify the factors which make for healthy and respectful relationships
  • examine the laws surrounding young people and sex
  • clarify the issues surrounding consent
  • develop strategies for giving and receiving consent
Identity and sexuality

Learning intentions:

  • define sexuality, gender, orientation, sex and identity
  • identify key factors related to the emergence of an individual’s sexuality
  • explore ways to support diversity and promote inclusivity
Sexual decision making

Learning intentions:

  • consider the different choices and potential outcomes of the decisions made in relation to a person’s sexual health
Safer Sex, Contraception and Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs)

Learning intentions:

  • identify safer sex practices
  • become informed about the latest contraception options, methods of STI prevention and available health services
    (potential for student involvement in condom demonstration)
Reality vs Fantasy: sex, gender and the media

Learning intentions:

  • explore the difference between what the media (including pornography) presents as love, sex and relationships and the reality
Accessing health services

This session is ideally run at FPV’s Action Centre (Melbourne CBD), however can be conducted within the school setting

Learning intentions:

  • identify the rights of young people regarding managing their health and accessing services
  • identify methods to overcome potential barriers for young people accessing health services

Young Women’s sexual and reproductive health

Learning intentions:

  • review the variety of sexual health issues that affect women
  • identify the rights of young people regarding managing their health and accessing services
Young Men’s sexual and reproductive health

Learning intentions:

  • review the variety of sexual health issues that affect men
  • identify the rights of young people regarding managing their health and accessing services
Pregnancy options (30 minute addition)

Learning intentions:

  • become informed about choices and options related to pregnancy
  • increase awareness surrounding accessing services and support

International Student Sessions

Students will learn about:

  • Sex in Australia (statistical review, diversity, healthy relationships)
  • Sex, consent and the law
  • Accessing sexual and reproductive health services
  • Safer sex (contraception, prevention of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs), condom demonstration)

Cost

$200 per hour (GST free) for groups up to 27.

$325 per hour (GST free) for larger groups (32+ students) in a lecture style.


(Optional) Information session for parents and carers

(held prior to FPV school sessions)

This information session is run prior to students’ education sessions and offers parents and carers an insight into relationships and sexuality education, its importance in the curriculum and how to support their children on their own physical, emotional and social journeys.

Learning Intentions

Participants will:

  • Explore the importance of evidence based, age and developmentally appropriate relationships and sexuality education.
  • Identify links to the guidelines and principles of the Victorian Government in relation to health and education.
  • Explore the FPV student education program.
  • Identify methods of engaging in conversations with their child around relationships, reproductive and sexual health.
  • Develop strategies for effectively answering their child’s questions.
  • Be provided with an opportunity to ask questions regarding the program.

Cost

  • $230 (GST free) per hour
  • $345 (GST free) for 1.5 hours
  • $460 (GST free) for 2 hours
