The Amazing True Story Of How Babies Are Made

FPV recently endorsed a fun and fantastic new sex education resource 'The Amazing True Story Of How Babies Are Made'.

The Amazing True Story of How Babies Are Made is an animated sexual education series for children, based on the best-selling book of the same name by Fiona Katauskas.

Funny, frank and embarrassment-free, the animations and accompanying educational resources give a fresh, up-to-date take on the incredible tale of where we all come from. It explains the facts of life in a clear, positive and inclusive way, also covering assisted reproduction, such as IVF, egg and sperm donation.

Family Planning Victoria's Schools and Community Manager, Bonnie Lee, says the resource is not only cute and informative, but a valuable learning tool.

"Schools are consistently reported as being a major and trusted source of information for young people about Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE); and for some young people, schools may be their only source of information. Teachers are in an incredibly privileged position to be trusted by both students and parents/carers to be able to provide age- and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that enable young people to construct meaning around their changing bodies and relationships," she explains.

"The Amazing True Story of How Babies Are Made provides teachers with engaging resources that can be incorporated into a comprehensive RSE program. The availability and popularity of the book and animations enable this resource to be used as a link to foster and support strong home-school-community partnerships, which are essential to any successful RSE program."

The animation is divided into three parts:

Episode 1: Girls and Boys (7:17)
How boys’ and girls’ bodies are different, how they develop and grow and how they start producing sperm and eggs.

Episode 2: Sperm Meets Egg (5:29)
You only need one sperm and one egg to make a baby, but how do they get together?

Episode 3: A Baby Grows (9:01)
A fertilised egg doesn’t become a baby overnight, it takes nine months to become a brand new human being!

It’s one of the most amazing stories ever told – and it’s all true!

The series is available for purchase by itself, as part of a Family Resource Kit, or as part of a Classroom Kit.
