Syphilis
The following are some facts you should know about syphilis:
- Syphilis is caused by a type of bacteria.
- It's more common in men who have sex with men.
- Your first infection might cause a sore (ulcer) on the genitals.
- If you don't get it treated, syphilis can cause other symptoms like a skin rash, patchy loss of hair and a general feeling of unwell.
- It's easily diagnosed by having a blood test.
- Men who have sex with men should be tested at least once a year.
- It's treated with antibiotics.
- You need to have it treated as soon as possible, as it can cause serious health problems.
- Your sexual partner/s should also be treated as soon as possible.
