Mycoplasma genitalium

The following are some facts you should know about mycoplasma genitalium:

  • Mycoplasma genitalium is a type of bacteria that infects the urethra (urine passage), cervix, throat and anus.
  • It's transmitted by vaginal, anal and oral sex.
  • In men, mycoplasma genitalium can cause a stinging or burning feeling when urinating and a discharge from the penis.
  • In women, it can cause pain in the pelvic area, pain during sex and an abnormal vaginal discharge.
  • Mycoplasma genitalium is treated with antibiotics.
  • Your partner/s also need to be treated.
