Chlamydia
The following are some facts you should know about chlamydia:
- Chlamydia is caused by a type of bacteria and is a common sexually transmissible infection (STI).
- It affects both women and men.
- If you're under 30, you should have a checkup each year, as it usually has no symptoms.
- In women, chlamydia might cause an increase in vaginal discharge, unusual bleeding, pain during sex, a burning feeling when urinating or pain in the lower abdomen.
- In men, it might cause a discharge from the penis or a burning feeling when urinating.
- If women don't get treatment, chlamydia can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which can lower the ability to have a baby (fertility).
- It's easily diagnosed with a urine test and treated with antibiotics.
