The law says that any sex or sexual touching without your agreement (consent) is unlawful and therefore a crime. The law also sets age limits for having sex and sexual touching to help protect children and young people from being taken advantage of by people who are older or people in authority. In Victoria, the law is the same for straight and same-sex attracted people.
The Victorian Legal Aid booklet, Am I old enough? will give you more information about your rights and responsibilities.
In this section, you will find information on sex and the law, including consent, abortion in Victoria, sex work, sexual assault and abuse and violence in relationships.
