The Pill turns 50

Fifty years ago, on 11 May, the first oral contraceptive pill was made available in the United States, empowering women to take control of their family planning. The Pill has since become the most widely used and trusted form of contraception for over 100 million women worldwide.

Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia (SH&FPA) is asking Australian women to celebrate by voting on a vision for women over the next 50 years through their initiative, titled Dreams for our Daughters.

For every vote cast, $1 will be donated to the Australian charity striving to make that dream a reality. Dreams include sexual and reproductive health rights for every woman, an end to violence against women and a sustainable living environment for women and their families.

Dreams for our Daughters is proudly supported by Bayer Schering Pharma.

Women can now vote at facebook.com/50yearsofthepill or go to understandingyou.com.au for more information.

NotSoStraight

Not So Straight is a candid and engaging exploration of contemporary issues facing same sex attracted young people in Melbourne.

Developed by members of YAK, Family Planning Victoria’s same sex attracted support group for people under 26, in collaboration with award-winning documentary film makers Peter George and Poppy Shmith, Not So Straight provides a snapshot of the triumphs and hardships of a diverse group of young people who just happen to be queer.

A valuable resource for teachers, youth workers and other service providers working with young people, this film will inspire you to make your schools and youth settings more supportive and inclusive of same sex attracted young people.

Not So Straight has been funded by the City of Melbourne and FPV.
