Family Planning Victoria Inc (FPV) is compliant with all the requirements of the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). FPV will maintain appropriate privacy practices in accordance with the ten National Privacy Principles, our position on each of the principles is outlined below.
1. Collection
FPV collects personal information about a person in the course of providing a service to that person, or when that person completes an online survey or posts information on FPV's website.

FPV will only use or disclose such personal information for these purposes. FPV will maintain the privacy of all information except as is otherwise required by law.
3. Data quality
FPV will take all reasonable steps to make sure that information we collect or disclose is accurate, complete and up to date.
4. Data security
FPV will protect the personal information it holds from misuse, loss, unauthorised access modification or disclosure. When information is no longer needed it will be destroyed.
5. Openness
FPV by way of this document sets out its policy in respect of privacy. On request an individual will be advised generally, what sort of personal information FPV holds, for what purposes, how we collect, hold and disclose the information.
6. Access and correction

FPV will adopt its own identifier system in respect of individuals.
8. Anonymity
FPV will where lawful and practicable give individuals the option of not identifying themselves when dealing with FPV.
9. Transborder data flow
The Commonwealth Privacy Act limits the flow of information outside Australia and the Health records Act and the Victorian Privacy Legislation limit the flow of information outside Victoria. FPV will transfer client information only where they reasonably believe the organization they are sending the information to is bound by similar restrictions on the use of that information or where the clients written consent is given.
10. Sensitive information
Persons dealing with FPV will be deemed to have given their consent to FPV collecting sensitive information about them. The Health Records Act provides all clients with an automatic right to view their health information gathered after July 1st 2002 and a summary of all information collected before that date.
