Sexual Health Information Group Sessions for Youth Attending Community Organisations

Family Planning Victoria offers three structured sexual health information sessions for groups of young people aged 12 - 24.  These sessions have been designed to support these young people, who are often outside of the mainstream school setting and currently involved with support agencies such as alternative school settings, youth services or LGBTI support groups.

1. Blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infection session for young people

This session introduces age appropriate, safer sex information in a safe and friendly environment. Topics include:

  • BBV and STI prevention
  • national data on young people's sexual health
  • contraceptive options.

Duration: 50 minutes, plus questions time.

2. Blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infection session for young LGBTI people 

This session aims to provide tailored safer sex information. Topics include:

  • BBV and STI prevention
  • national data on LGBTI young people's sexual health
  • contraceptive options.

Duration: 50 minutes, plus questions time.

3. Sexual and gender diversity/anti-discrimination education session

This session challenges young people to recognise and understand sexual and gender diversity and the effects of discrimination in their communities. Topics include:

  • sexual and gender diversity
  • frequency data
  • definitions of homophobia/transphobia and heterosexism
  • anti-discrimination strategies
  • Action Centre and other LGBTI support services.

Duration: 50 minutes, plus questions time.

Tailored Programs

In addition to the three structured sessions outlined above, Family Planning Victoria offers tailored reproductive and sexual health sessions for groups of young people aged 12 - 24.

Session Bookings

Sessions / attendance must be booked by the relevant community organisation or government agency responsible for coordinating support services for the group requiring a session.

Your participation may be required to support the young people to evaluate the session. 

Staff accompanying young people will be responsible for their supervision and discipline at all times.

Learning Outcomes

The aim is to meet the needs of vulnerable and at risk young people, aged 12 - 25, ensuring they receive factual and culturally relevant information that might enhance their sexual health literacy and support them to make informed decisions in relation to their reproductive and sexual health.

Cost

Structured sessions

The three structured sessions outlined above are offered at no cost to the participant.  This work is funded by the Victorian Department of Health through its Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmissible Infections (BBVs/STIs) program.

Tailored sessions

Tailored sessions are based on a fee for service.  For more information, please speak to our team about tailoring a program for your group.

Location

Sessions can either be held at your agency, in the Family Planning Victoria training room at Box Hill or in a CBD location. If the session is to be conducted at your agency a data projector and computer will be required. If the session is to be conducted in the CBD the number of participants will be needed for room bookings.

Accreditation / Recognition

CPD points are not currently available for these sessions.

Additional Sessions for Professionals
