This course will be run by Dr Suzanne Pearson, Senior Medical Education Officer, Family Planning Victoria and Dr Vinita Rane, Infectious Diseases Registrar/General Medical Registrar, Monash Health.
The six hour interactive workshop will provide doctors with learning to improve knowledge and confidence in managing sexual health and STIs in their practice.
The course will include sexual history taking, STI screening and STI management. A diagnostic approach will include common and important STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis and HIV. A syndromic approach will include vaginal discharge, pelvic inflammatory disease and urethritis in males. There will be time for quizzes as well as a question and answer session.
Who should attend
This course is relevant for all doctors who have an interest in sexual history taking and STIs and is aimed at an appropriate level for general practice.
Participants must hold an MBBS or equivalent. Current registration is not a requirement for this course.
Participants who complete all requirements (including pre-reading and reinforcing activities and evaluation) will be eligible for 40 Category 1 RACGP points.
Participants will also receive a certificate of attendance.
