These courses will enable you and your students to explore healthy relationships and the roles and responsibilities of young people. 

Protective Behaviours within a Comprehensive Sexuality Education Program (Primary)

Learning Intentions

Participants of this Professional Learning Workshop will explore the ways they can help young people develop protective behaviours. Participants will examine current knowledge, methods of best practice and related policy in the area of Child Safety. 

Participants will:

  • develop a clear overview of the latest research and findings on Protective Behaviours 
  • identify methods of best practice for managing sexualised behaviour
  • increase confidence when addressing sexualised bullying
  • review the Child Safety Standards
  • develop an understanding of normal developmental behaviours in regards to sexuality
  • explore empowering language and assertiveness techniques
  • refine knowledge and skills of knowing when and how to act upon concerning behaviours
  • acquire specialist activities / resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace

Workshop Details

  • FPV workshops are delivered by experienced sexuality educators.
  • All curriculum materials and learning activities provided are aligned to the Victorian Curriculum. 
  • This session is designed for school staff (teachers/aides/welfare) working within a primary school setting.
  • This is 4 hour workshop, to be held at Family Planning Victoria, Box Hill.

Relationships & Sexuality Education for Students with Special Needs in a Mainstream Setting

Learning Intentions

Participants of this Professional Learning Workshop will explore the ways they can assist young people with special needs to access Relationships and Sexuality Education. The workshop will examine current knowledge and methods of best practice in this area.

Participants will:

  • develop an understanding of the pedagogy surrounding Relationships and Sexuality Education for Students with Additional Needs
  • develop strategies to support all students accessing the curriculum within their classroom
  • identify methods of best practice for explaining difficult concepts such as consent, sexual orientation and contraception 
  • develop strategies for answering difficult questions 
  • establish methods of dispelling anxiety and maintaining effective communication with parents / carers 
  • acquire specialist activities / resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace

  • All curriculum materials and learning activities provided are aligned to the Victorian Curriculum.
  • This session is designed for school staff (teachers/aides/welfare) working within a primary or secondary school setting.
  • This is 4 hour workshop, to be held at Family Planning Victoria, Box Hill.
  • This Professional Learning Workshop can be used to meet the VIT requirements of PD related to the government’s Special Needs Plan and building teacher capacity to teach learners with disability.

Contraception & STIs 

Learning Intentions

Participants of this Professional Learning Workshop will explore the sexual behaviour of young people and will develop effective strategies and methods of best practice for teaching sexual and reproductive health. Participants will develop knowledge of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) and the latest methods of contraception.  

Participants will:

  • develop a pedagogical approach and identify key messages around safer sex
  • review the latest contraceptive methods
  • review the statistics, testing and treatments of STIs
  • develop harm minimisation approaches to sexual health
  • establish a framework to support Relationships and Sexuality Education in schools
  • identify methods of engaging school leaders, parents and the wider school community 
  • acquire specialist activities / resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace
  • participate in a Q&A with clinical staff

  • This FPV workshop is delivered by experienced sexuality educators, in partnership with clinical staff.
  • All curriculum materials and learning activities provided are aligned to the Victorian Curriculum.

Relationships & Sexuality Education (Primary) 

Learning Intentions

Participants of this Professional Learning Workshop will develop practical skills in teaching Relationships and Sexuality Education to students from Foundation to Year 6, with a focus on Years 3 - 6. Participants will examine current knowledge and methods of best practice in the area of Relationships and Sexuality Education.

Participants will:

  • identify methods of best practice in Relationships and Sexuality Education 
  • establish a framework to support a whole-school approach for Relationships and Sexuality Education in schools
  • conduct a curriculum review of:
    • puberty (emotional, social and physical changes) 
    • conception, pregnancy and birth (including assisted reproductive treatment)
    • friendships and relationships 
    • gender and identity 
  • develop strategies for dealing with difficult questions
  • identify methods of engaging school leaders, parents and the wider school community
  • acquire specialist activities / resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace

Teaching Respectful Relationships (Secondary)

Learning Intentions

    • sexual attraction, identity, gender and stereotypes
    • the law and consent
    • young people and sex: the real story
    • healthy and unhealthy relationships

    • sexual decision making
    • consent and coercion
  • develop strategies for dealing with difficult questions
  • identify methods of engaging school leaders, parents and the wider school community
  • acquire specialist activities / resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace

Sexual Ethics in the Digital Space (Secondary)

Learning Intentions

Participants of this Professional Learning Workshop will learn how they can teach young people to be respectful digital citizens when it comes to sexuality. Participants will explore ways they can help young people to develop an ethical framework when navigating the influence of technology (including sexting and pornography) in the modern world. The course will examine current knowledge and methods of best practice in this area. 

Participants will:

  • investigate young people’s porn usage
  • review the latest research and findings on young people’s Sexual Ethics in the Digital Space 
  • develop a pedagogical approach and identify the key messages around sexuality education and digital technologies 
  • review the law and approaches to ethical behaviour around consent and social media/sexting
  • identify methods of respectful communication in the digital age
  • discuss the use of porn as sexuality education
  • acquire specialist activities / resources to support teaching and learning in the workplace
