Our comprehensive Relationships & Sexuality Education sessions align with the Victorian Curriculum levels and incorporate age appropriate materials and content. These sessions are delivered by experienced, trained FPV educators.

Each session will offer information, activities, values clarification and an opportunity for students to ask questions. We offer extension activities that can be used by classroom teachers to consolidate learning. Sexual Health Victoria also offers professional development for staff.

Growing Up

(3 x 1.5 hour sessions)

Session 1: Human development across the lifespan

Learning intentions:

Students will

  • Identify the names and functions of the organs contained in the male and female reproductive systems
  • Explore the concept and process of reproduction and its place in the natural world

Session 2: Puberty

Learning intentions:

Students will

  • Develop an understanding of the physical, social and emotional changes experienced during puberty
  • Consider what it means to be physically, socially and emotionally healthy

Session 3: Managing changes and transitions

Learning intentions:

Students will

  • Develop strategies to manage the physical, social and emotional changes experienced during puberty (including menstrual management and sperm production)
  • Identify personal support networks and help-seeking behaviours to support young people going through puberty.

Class size

We recommend a maximum of 26-27 students per session.

Composite classes would undertake a combined version of the program which is designed to run every second year from the year of commencement.

$900 per class group, inclusive of three sessions (GST free)

Socialising Online

(1 x 1.5 hour session)

The Victorian Curriculum at Levels 5 and 6 supports students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills to create opportunities and act to enhance their own and others' health, wellbeing and safety.

The lesson provides opportunities for students to contribute to building respectful relationships and a positive school environment (both physical and online) that supports healthy, safe and active choices for themselves and others.

Learning intentions:

Students will

  • Examine the ways in which young people use online platforms to socialise
  • Explore ethical and legal considerations around socialising online, including; social media, sexual images and pornography
  • Identify online risks and methods of reporting unethical/illegal behaviours

We recommend a maximum of 26-27 students per session.

Year 6 extension program

FPV now offers a Year 6 extension program for returning schools, who wish to run a sequential Year 5 into Year 6 program.

Session 2: Puberty

  • Develop problem solving strategies to maintain physical, social and emotional healthy

Session 3: Managing changes and transitions

Learning intentions:

Students will

  • Review strategies to manage the social and emotional changes experienced during puberty
  • Explore the changing nature of relationships, and what are healthy relationships
  • Identify personal support networks and help-seeking behaviours to support young people going through puberty.

(Optional) Information session for parents and carers

(held prior to FPV school sessions)

This information session is run prior to students’ education sessions and offers parents and carers an insight into relationships and sexuality education, its importance in the curriculum and how to support their children on their own physical, emotional and social journeys.

Learning Intentions

Participants will:

  • Explore the importance of evidence based, age and developmentally appropriate relationships and sexuality education.
  • Identify links to the guidelines and principles of the Victorian Government in relation to health and education.
  • Explore the FPV student education program.
  • Identify methods of engaging in conversations with their child around relationships, reproductive and sexual health.
  • Develop strategies for effectively answering their child’s questions.
  • Be provided with an opportunity to ask questions regarding the program.

Cost

  • $230 (GST free) per hour
  • $345 (GST free) for 1.5 hours
  • $460 (GST free) for 2 hours

Socialising online – Parent and carer information session

This information session can be run prior to students’ education session around Socialising Online, or can be run as a stand-alone parent/carer information session.

This session offers parents and carers an insight into young people’s use of emerging online technologies to socialise and build connections with others. The session aims to link our understandings of relationships and sexuality education and the important role this plays when supporting young people to navigate their social interactions online.

Learning Intentions

Participants will:

  • Acknowledge the potential of young people experiencing sexual content online.
  • Reflect upon values and structures within the home environment that support young people to engage with technology.
  • Explore legal and ethical online behaviours.
  • Identify methods of engaging in conversations with their child around socialising online.
  • Develop strategies for effectively answering their child’s questions.
  • Be provided with an opportunity to ask questions and review resources.
