Course Overview

This certificate course is made up of the following two courses:

1. Comprehensive Reproductive and Sexual Health (Nursing)

This five day theory based course provides up-to-date, evidence-based information on a broad range of reproductive and sexual health topics. It explores the physiological, social and environmental aspects of reproductive and sexual health using current research findings, clinical guidelines and the knowledge and experience of experts in the field.

2. Cervical Screening and Introduction to Sexual Health (Nursing)

This four day course aims to equip nurses with the clinical knowledge and skills to become a nurse cervical screening provider (NCSP).  It includes sessions on the role and clinical skills of the reproductive and sexual health (RSH) nurse.  In addition the course introduces a range of reproductive and sexual health topics including vaginal and vulval health, primary care gynaecology, contraception and sexually transmissible infections.

Who would benefit from this course?

Registered nurses (Division 1) and registered midwives (Division 1) with at least one year post-registration experience.

Course outcomes

Family Planning Victoria’s certificate in Comprehensive Reproductive and Sexual Health (Nursing)

Nurses who wish to receive the full Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health (Nursing) must successfully complete both the Comprehensive Reproductive and Sexual Health (Nursing) course and the Cervical Screening and Introduction to Sexual Health (Nursing) course. This includes course attendance, completion of clinical placements and completion of assessment pieces within two years.  We recommend the two courses are completed in the above order to minimise workload and the number of clinical placements.

Recognition of prior leaning is available to nurses who seek credits for previous study and/or existing skills (fees apply).
