Community Educators

Parent Education

Family Planning Victoria has a wealth of experience in talking to young people about sexuality. Parents, carers and other interested adults are invited to come along and explore practical and easy ways to ensure they can talk to children and young adults about issues of puberty, sex, relationships, etc. One workshop can make a significant difference to how comfortable you feel in dealing with these issues!

FPV runs a number of parent workshops at its Box Hill premises and is able to deliver the same programs at schools, community groups and other locations. Examples of programs include:

Sexuality & the Sandpit

  • An important workshop, which looks at how parents can be effective in aspects of sexuality for pre-school children. What is appropriate at this age, what are the stages of sexual development, how can you become an approachable parent right from the start?

Puberty, Pimples and Periods

  • A fun workshop for mothers/caregivers and their daughters aged 9-13 years. Learn how to cope with the physical and emotional changes of puberty and explore issues together such as body image and peer pressure.

SOS — Sexuality of Our Sons

  • A workshop for fathers/caregivers and their sons aged 10-14 years. Take a look at the changes that occur at puberty and join in some fun activities to look at those changes which impact most on the development of young men.

Not Just the Birds and The Bees

  • A relaxed approach to exploring how to talk with your primary aged child comfortably about sex. The session will include strategies on how to raise difficult subjects and answer embarrassing questions.

Handling Hormones

  • Adolescence is a time of change and challenges. Join other parents and caregivers and discuss ways to talk about sex & relationships, raise sensitive issues and cope with your teenager’s developing sexuality. Great for parents/carers of children aged 13-17 years.
