Educators
Primary
and Secondary School Programs
FPV educators are available
to provide programs to both primary and secondary school students.
Education programs are designed to meet the needs of individual
classes and are developed in accordance with the relevant
level of the Curriculum and Standards Framework.
In addition to working with
the students themselves, FPV educators also run information,
education and professional development sessions for parents,
caregivers and teachers on any aspect of child or adolescent
sexual and reproductive health.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Programs at this level usually
consist of 3 x 1.5 hour sessions (run over 3 weeks), however
alternative programs are available.
Topics addressed include: feelings,
self image, protective behaviours, the human body, fertilisation
and human reproduction, pregnancy and birth, puberty, sexual
health, gender stereotypes and friendships and relationships.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS
The sexuality education programs
usually consist of a series of 1.5 hours sessions.
However, as part of an ongoing
program, oneoff, half day or whole day programs are
also available.
Topics include contraception,
unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, decision-making,
sexuality, gender stereotypes, homophobia/heterosexism and
Reproductive Health for Adolescents (RHA).
Visits to FPVs Box Hill
and City (Action Centre for Young People) premises can also
be arranged to familiarise students with the services of the
organisation.
