Professional Development

FPV delivers tailored training and professional development anywhere in the state, on any aspect of sexual and reproductive health.

This includes seminars on contraception and unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and blood borne viruses, homophobia/heterosexism, teaching strategies and activities for sexual and reproductive health topics in schools, and information on new and relevant resources.

In addition to this statewide service, FPV also runs a range of programs at its Box Hill and City premises. A calendar of forthcoming programs is available by contacting the Education Administration Officer on 9257 0133.

Professional development for Primary Teachers, School Nurses and Community Educators.

FPV can tailor in-house programs to suit the requirements of staff at your school or organisation. This may include consultation in drafting a sexuality education program, formulating a whole school approach to dealing with sexuality education or looking at ways to address these sensitive issues with particular target groups. In addition, FPV delivers the following calendared workshops for educators working with Primary aged children:

A mixed bag of fun activities and strategies for use in the Human Relations classroom. Come along and be rejuvenated!

Exploring Sexual Development

Learn new ways to creatively use a Personal Development Kit in your Health and Human Development classroom. Includes teaching strategies, latest facts and figures and new resources.

Talking About Safer Sex

Now in its 5th year! This workshop explores practical activities and strategies to use in the health classroom. Especially useful for teachers of Years 8-10. Topics in the 3.5 hour workshop include:

  • Issues and concepts around sexuality in young people
  • Latest research
  • "Hot" issues including same-sex attraction, the internet, drugs & sex
  • New classroom activities

Show and Tell

What’s Love Got to Do With It?

The missing ingredient from sex education today, seems to be love. Develop strategies for:

  • Addressing the concept of good & bad love with teenagers
  • Explore ways they can deal with relationships
  • Addressing intimacy and sexuality

‘Bleep If You Love Me’ — the impact of the Internet on young people & their sexuality

This workshop explores the Internet’s positive and negative impact on dating, relationships and young people’s sexuality. Issues such as cyber-sex, chat lines and access to net pornography will be explored and the workshop will provide some practical strategies to address these issues in sexuality education classes.

ABC of STIs

Update your knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and learn new and exciting strategies to use in the classroom. The workshop includes a clinical update on STIs from a Family Planning doctor or nurse.

The Contraception Invention

A fun and interactive workshop looking at classroom strategies to teach students about contraception. The session includes a clinical update on contraceptive methods commonly used by young people as well as the latest types of contraception available on the Australian market.

Sexual Pursuits

This interactive workshop will provide some inspiring ways to explore sexual health issues. The following topics will be covered in a fast, fun and challenging way:

  • Research
  • Gender
  • Safer sex
  • Risk taking
  • Cyber sex

Sexuality, Young People and Education

A comprehensive 2 day course which is suitable for teachers, youth workers, community health nurses and others who are responsible for the well-being of young people. Explore sexuality issues which are relevant to young people today including:

  • Belief structures
  • Latest research
  • Updates on clinical issues
  • The impact of gender & power issues on sexuality
  • Types of risk taking behaviour
  • Fun strategies for working with groups around these issues
