Sexual
Identity
QUEER, BI,
LESBIAN….JUST NOT SURE?
Jenny, 16: "I kept thinking that it would go away, that
one day I would wake up and start looking at guys and thinking
they were cute. Instead of waking up every day looking at
girls and women and wondering what it would be like to kiss
them."
"
And then one day I really did wake up. And I realised that
maybe I didn’t like guys that way. Maybe I was gay.
And it was scary and a relief all at once."
Mark, 15: "I get sick of being called faggot and poof.
I’m not sure what I am. I know that I like guys and
sometimes I like girls. I just don’t know what I am
and I don’t know who to talk to."
Tran, 17: "I’ve always known that I like other
guys. I just want to find a safe place to meet other people
like me, and to be able to talk about what’s happening
in my life".
Sound familiar? If you think you might be gay, lesbian,
bisexual or queer, or you’re just not sure, call the
Action Centre on (03) 9654 4766 or 1800 013 952. Come and
see us, or just ring us to talk, get information or to find
out where to meet other young people who are just like you.
We run social support groups for young people who are
attracted to others of the same sex. It’s a chance
to meet and talk with other young people, to learn about
coming
out, dealing with homophobia, relationships, safer sex, and
a whole lot more. If you’re not ready for a group,
you can meet with us one-to-one, or just chat on the
phone. If
you can’t get in to us, we can tell you where the nearest
group to you is situated. If you need to see a doctor, nurse
or counsellor, rest assured that the ones at the Action Centre
are cool if you’re queer!
While you’re here, check out sections on Sexual Orientation and Supporting same-sex attracted young people,
their families, schools and communities
