Who is Sex!Life!

Choice — Not Chance

The Sex!Life! website is owned by Family Planning Victoria.

Family Planning Victoria (FPV) has been providing sexual and reproductive health services in Victoria for over 30 years.

FPV is an independent, non profit-making organisation responsible to a voluntary board of directors. Our aim is to offer reliable, up-to-date and non-judgmental information about contraception, family planning, safe sex and sexual and reproductive health.

FPV receives the bulk of its funding from the Victorian state government and some non recurrent project funds. It also generates its own revenue through fee based education and training programs, sale of books and other resources.

FPV is part of the national organisation, Sexual Health & Family Planning Australia (SHFPA) and works closely with other state and territory family planning organisations, for improved sexual and reproductive health in Australia. Through SHFPA, FPV is linked to the international body, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

Vision

Key challenges

Managing the demand for clinical sexual and reproductive health services:

  • Increase access to sexual and reproductive health services for those who are most marginalised in Victorian communities.
  • Provide clinical services in a manner which maximises service delivery strategies.

Improving the viability and productivity of education and training:

  • Be recognized as the peak body in sexual and reproductive health, education and training.
  • Improve access to education and training services for those who are most marginalised.
  • Initiate and develop a diverse range of quality education and training resources.
  • Maximise the relationship between education and clinical services.

Enhance the provision of sexual and reproductive health as part of the primary health care system:

  • Shift the focus from disease management to a health promotion framework.
  • Position sexual and reproductive health in the public health context.
  • Increase the availability of sexual and reproductive health services in community based settings.
  • Promote sexual and reproductive health care in a way that is sensitive to gender, sexual and cultural diversities.

FPV's values are based on the principles of the social model of health

  • Community focus: we promote shared community responsibility for improving sexual and reproductive health.
  • Professional integrity: we treat all people with dignity and respect.
  • Sensitivity: we are sensitive to the impact of gender, culture and social environment on sexual health beliefs and behaviours.
  • Collaboration: we develop supportive partnerships to improve sexual and reproductive health education and services.
  • Evidence base: we base our activities and resource decisions on evidence of how best to improve sexual and reproductive health.

FPV aims to provide:

  • Advice, services and education to professionals in the medical and allied health fields, government education and social work.
  • Services, advice and assistance to all Victorian communities and the most vulnerable in society including refugees, the homeless, the disabled and the poor.
